New Orleans - was it preventable??

The after-effects of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans only highlights the over-extension of our national guardsman to support Bush's agenda in Iraq.

It not only demonstrates the absence of strong legislative support to those on the line who knew about the levies' condition but it also reveals the national exposure of oil refining capability with one-third out of commission for at least several months and the associated impact at the pump and in homes where the first frost of winter approaching in weeks for some Americans.

It will expose the inequity of corporate welfare (the oil industry to name just one) and the undeniable emergencies of disadvantaged households where $3.00 or more a gallon for gas is beyond reach, much less $3.50 as I shared in my last blog.

A real leader would cajole the media and special interests that the fourth estate and the American public deserves better than what we have been swallowing... and I believe I express the voice of the silent majority that says "That's enough, damn it!"

We should focus our attention on helping those in greatest need in and around New Orleans the way we were generous during the Tsunami. You can make a donation to the American Red Cross to help
https://www.redcross.org/donate/donation-form.asp, but let's not forget how we can minimize these types of problems in the future.
