...and will wealthy and big business inherit the earth?

Lewis Black, the comedian, says to relieve the pain of suffering from those things that are foolish or crappy he suggests sticking a spoon in your ear. While I don't want to go that far, I think I understand why citizens become so apathetic. It seems many of our elected officials don't listen, don't seem to keep their promises or betray our trust. So why do we continue the insanity? The answer seems self serving, but I believe it is caused by three things: (1) Who is running for office and who is "backing" them. (2) The money for media thing that makes good candidates scarce (3) Voting falling on a weekday. In part, this is one of the reasons I chose to run. The other is we're going in the wrong direction and I'm one of the millions of Americans who just am unwilling to just take it any more.

Who doesn't feel there's something wrong with gas prices, social security and pensions at risk, unfunded education mandates, etc., etc., but what measureable things have candidates or elected officials say and do to change this.... and why don't they? After all, we're the voters. If we accept that special interests and big money back candidates most likely to push their issues, even when it harms the voters, then this is one answer. This means we're not getting the representation that we're after.

Media controls the "message" so except for rare circumstances, the "vanilla" every-size-fits-all messages cost big bucks that often only the wealthy candidates with their backers can afford. Are these candidates like you and me? Are their issues or risks like ours? So who prefers to vote on a work day? Maybe if we had some other system, people most effected could come out in greater numbers. This is very common in many other countries with 80% turnout or higher often the rule.
